1. Connect and add channels. Sign up, connect Twitch OAuth (scopes include clips:edit and chat:read), and add the streamers you care about up to your seat limit.

Chat-spike detection in plain language

HighlightPilot does not “watch the gameplay.” It measures how fast chat is moving relative to a calm baseline for that channel.

• Warmup. After joining a channel, the monitor spends about a minute collecting baseline samples so early noise does not fire clips.
• Spike-resistant baseline. Baseline updates use a median of samples and skip obvious spike samples so one hype moment does not permanently raise the floor.
• Sustained vs burst. Sustained looks at a longer window (about 30 seconds). Burst looks at a short window (about 8 seconds). If both pass, sustained is preferred.
• Crowd checks. Triggers expect multiple unique chatters and enough absolute message rate — not one person spamming alone.
• Spam and hype gates. Copy-paste floods and keyword spam are blocked. Built-in hype reactions (and your own allowed phrases) can still pass when the room is genuinely reacting.
• Peak-aware delay and cooldown. After a spike qualifies, clipping waits briefly for the peak to settle (with a max delay), then applies a cooldown so one moment does not create a stack of near-duplicate clips.

Viewer count can influence absolute rate floors and post-clip quality scoring. It is not the primary clip trigger. Detection presets (for example gaming vs Just Chatting) mainly adjust threshold multipliers — they do not parse kills, objectives, or audio.

Official Twitch clips, not downloaded files
